Time : Apr 09, 2026

The examination of the fundus is more, part of the examination needs mydriasis, part of the examination does not need mydriasis.

Fundus can be checked by fundus microscopy, fundus photography, optical coherence tomography, fundus fluorescence angiography and other methods. Before examination, slit lamp and intraocular pressure should be checked first. If the anterior chamber depth is normal and the intraocular pressure is normal, the fundus should be checked after mydriasis, and the pupil should be dilated after mydriasis. It is beneficial to the diagnosis of fundus diseases. If the anterior chamber is shallow and the intraocular pressure is high, mydriasis is prohibited during fundus microscopy and fundus photography, so as not to induce an acute attack of glaucoma. The fundus can be examined without mydriasis.

Ocular B-ultrasound examination can be used to check the fundus for retinal detachment, whether the fundus vitreous hemorrhage, tumor and other diseases, do this examination does not need mydriasis.

Perimetry can determine whether there is fundus optic nerve injury, and mydriasis is not required during examination.
